Pause a campaign from an assistant
Every write tool on this gateway previews first. Without confirm set to true, the tool describes the change and applies nothing. The Free plan has no write tools: they are absent from the list and refused if called. Campaigns are always created paused. That is 1 rule on Meta, Google, TikTok and Pinterest.

What this is about
Read this in
Each one opens that assistant with this URL and asks it for a summary.
Key takeaways
- A write without
confirm: truereturns a preview and applies nothing. - On Free, write tools are absent from the tool list and refused if called.
- Google Ads has 10 writes in a catalogue of 44. Meta Ads has 23 writes in 57.
- Campaigns created through this gateway are always created paused. There is no option to create them active.
- Search Console and GA4 cannot write on this gateway.
- There is no X Ads write, because there is no X Ads source. Microsoft Advertising has no tools.
What does preview then confirm mean?Link to this section
Every write tool describes the change and stops. Applying it takes a second call with confirm set to true. An assistant that picked the wrong campaign shows you the wrong campaign instead of pausing it. That is true for google_ads_update_campaign_status, meta_update_campaign_status, tiktok_update_campaign_status and pinterest_update_campaign_status.
- Connect the ad platform and tick the account in the Get MCP Ads dashboard.
- Paste the hosted MCP URL into your MCP client on a paid plan.
- Ask the assistant to pause a named campaign without confirming yet, and read the preview.
- Call the same write again with confirm set to true only after the preview is the campaign you meant.
A worked pause: name the campaign ID in the ask. Read the preview. If the name, budget and account ID match, call again with confirm set to true. If they do not, do not confirm. Claude may also ask its own approval; that prompt is Claude's, on top of this preview. See writes and previews. Confirm does not skip the ticked-account allowlist. An unticked account is refused before any preview.
The same shape covers budget and rename writes: google_, meta_, tiktok_, pinterest_. Creates (google_, meta_, tiktok_, pinterest_) always land paused. Activating is a later write, still preview then confirm, on a paid plan.
What does the Free plan do with writes?Link to this section
Free is read only. Write tools are not announced, and calling one is refused before it reaches the platform. The refused call is not counted as a successful write. Upgrade when you want the preview path, not when you want a firehose. That rule is this product's, not Meta official's and not X's.
1 ad account, 1 seat, 200 tool calls per period. Those strings come from the same plan table as pricing, so this paragraph cannot invent a cap. On a paid plan the write tools appear in the list. They still preview first. Free is the wrong plan for a desk that pauses campaigns. There is no hidden confirm on Free.
If an assistant claims it paused a campaign on Free, it is inventing. The gateway never sent that mutate. Check the tool list: google_ will be absent. Calling it anyway is refused. That is true in every MCP client this URL supports.
Which sources can write, and which cannot?Link to this section
Meta Ads, Pinterest Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads have write tools in the catalogue. Search Console and GA4 are read only. Microsoft Advertising has no tools. There is no X Ads source. Google Ads has 10 writes of 44. Meta has 23 of 57. TikTok has 27 of 58. Pinterest has 5 of 32.
Write posture by live source
| Source | Writes on this gateway | Create posture |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | 10 of 44, preview then confirm | Always paused |
| Meta Ads | 23 of 57, preview then confirm | Always paused |
| TikTok Ads | 27 of 58, preview then confirm | Always paused |
| Pinterest Ads | 5 of 32, preview then confirm | Always paused |
| Search Console | None. Read only | No create |
| GA4 | None. Read only | No create |
| Microsoft Advertising | No tools | Soon: OAuth exists, tools do not |
| X Ads | No source, no tools | Use X's own Ads MCP |
Counts are read from the catalogue on each build so a new write cannot stay unpublished on this page. Official X Ads MCP documents 10 writes and paused creates on X's server; that is their product, not ours. Official Microsoft Advertising MCP was announced read-only at open pilot. Neither is a write path on this URL.
How do you pause a campaign without guessing?Link to this section
Name the account and the campaign in the ask. Read the preview. Confirm only if both IDs are the ones you meant. The ticked-account allowlist is checked first. An agent cannot tick the account. Free cannot pause. Those three gates are the product, not a prompt template.
Ask: pause campaign 123 on the ticked Google Ads account, preview only. Expect google_ without confirm. Read the returned name and status. Then confirm. For Meta use meta_, for TikTok tiktok_, for Pinterest pinterest_. See the Google Ads source guide for the rest of the write list.
Give confirm to the people who already have Ads Manager access, not to a shared seat that reads Monday numbers. The agency article walks seats. The allowlist article walks ticks. Untick a client when the retainer ends; the next pause is refused.
When should you not write from an assistant?Link to this section
Do not write from an assistant when you are on Free, when the account is not ticked, when you need X Ads or Microsoft Advertising tools, when you need a GA4 or Search Console mutation, or when you wanted Meta official writes. Those are different servers with different contracts.
- You are on Free. There is no write path.
- The account is not ticked. The allowlist is checked server-side, including run_tool.
- You need X Ads or Microsoft Advertising tools. This gateway does not ship them.
- You need a GA4 or Search Console mutation. Those sources are read only here.
- You wanted Meta official mcp.facebook.com/ads writes. That is Meta's server, not this preview rule.
There is no X Ads. Microsoft Advertising is soon: OAuth exists, tools do not. Do not pause a Microsoft campaign through this gateway. Do not treat our soon badge as their MCP. Pricing is which plan includes the preview path. Official first-party write rules live on their pages, not in this catalogue.
